Leather grade, by product
Nordweg uses more than one leather grade. Many current products use top-grain bovine leather, while products in the Legacy collection identify full-grain bovine leather.
Leather grade, finish, lining, and hardware can vary by product. The material details on each product page are the source for the piece you are considering.
Recognizing real leather
Natural leather can show variation in grain, color, and texture from one hide to another. Those variations alone are not a reliable way to identify a material or judge its grade.
Use the material declaration on the product page to confirm the leather used in a specific Nordweg piece. If you need more detail before ordering, contact our support team.
Investing in a leather product means valuing quality and certainly building a long history with your Nordweg.
Material names and composition
Nordweg product pages name bovine leather when it is used and list the current leather grade for that piece. Linings, reinforcements, coatings, and other components may use different materials when the product specification says so.
We avoid broad material labels that hide those differences. Check the product page for the current composition before ordering.
A clear environmental standard
The environmental impact of a material depends on its source, processing, construction, use, care, and end of life. We do not make a universal impact claim for leather or synthetic materials without current evidence for the product and supplier involved.
When Nordweg publishes a certification or environmental claim, it should identify the documented scope and the product or facility it covers.
Conscious consumption
A product earns a long place in your life through useful design, sound construction, appropriate care, and repair when practical.
Choose the size and features that fit how you will use the piece. Follow the care guidance for that product, and contact us when stitching, hardware, or another component needs attention.
How material claims are governed
A leather grade or certification claim must be tied to current documentation for the product, material, tannery, or facility it covers. One supplier's status does not automatically apply to every Nordweg product.
Product pages carry the current customer-facing material specification. Contact our support team if a documented certification is important to your purchase.
LWG and supplier documentation
Leather Working Group assessments apply to named facilities and defined audit periods. A facility rating should not be presented as a blanket certification for every Nordweg supplier or product.
Nordweg will publish an LWG or other supplier certification only when current documentation confirms the facility, rating, scope, and date.
How to care for leather
Follow the care instructions on the product page for your piece.
• Wipe the surface with a soft, dry cloth.
• If the leather becomes damp, blot it and let it air-dry at room temperature, away from direct sun and heat.
• Do not use solvents, adhesives, open flame, or direct heat on the product.
• Before applying a leather conditioner, test it on a small hidden area.
• If stitching or hardware loosens, stop using the product and contact our support team. Do not burn or glue the thread.
