The people behind Nordweg

Our people

A family began the workshop. A team makes Nordweg.

Marisa and her husband made the first bags after work. Their sons now lead the factory and the brand, alongside the makers and colleagues who make Nordweg happen.

The beginning

Marisa and the first bags

Marisa made the first patchwork bag from leather offcuts. It was a gift for Igor’s young cousin. The orders that followed gave her and her husband a reason to begin a workshop of their own.

They cut and sewed in the evenings, after their shifts at the shoe factory. The first bag and the 1993 order are still part of the family archive.

The brand

Igor Gaelzer · The brand

Igor founded Nordweg in 2011. He leads the brand today.

He wanted to make the bags he would use and build the customer experience he had encountered during an exchange year in the United States. In the first online store, he answered the messages and packed the boxes himself.

The factory

Iuri · The factory

Iuri, Igor’s brother, manages the family factory in Picada Café.

The workshop carries the experience of the family’s earlier handbag business, Emme. Its patterns, people, and knowledge became the foundation for making Nordweg.

Many hands

The wider Nordweg family

At the cutting tables, sewing machines, and finishing benches, makers bring the designs into physical form. Across the company, colleagues connect that work to the people who will use it.

The family business depends on this wider team. Respect, learning, and taking pride in useful work are part of the culture we aim to practice.

The family, today

Still part of the workshop

Igor and Iuri’s parents are retired. They still visit the factory, talk with the team, and see how things are going.

The workshop has grown since the garage years. The people who began it remain connected to the place and the work.
